Going away this half term?

With half term fast approaching, you might be looking to take the family away for a break. Before you do, it’s worth taking a few extra precautions in your home. As well as making sure your home’s secure, locking all windows and external doors and keeping valuables out of sight, it’s also really important to reduce the risk of fire while your home is unoccupied.
Here’s a simple checklist to go through before you head off.

  • Turn off and unplug electrical devices that don’t need to be kept on
  • Turn off all gas appliances
  • Test your smoke alarms
  • Close all internal doors (if a fire does occur, this keeps it better contained)
  • Make sure a trusted friend, neighbour or relative has a spare key, so access can be gained if needed.
