Shared Ownership brings home security for Maidstone couple

Moving into their new shared ownership home in Maidstone has been worth the wait for Toby and Sara.

After five years of renting privately and living with parents, being handed the keys to their own home has finally given them both some much needed security.

“We have a dog, and many landlords don’t accept pets, so found ourselves moving from one place to another. All we wanted was a secure home for us all.  Then we saw the new shared ownership homes being built at the Rosewood development and realised it was a perfect opportunity.”, said Sara.

The couple bought their home from Golding Places, buying a 30% equity share through Shared Ownership, a part buy, part rent scheme.

“As first-time buyers, owning our own home seemed out of reach,” said Toby. “We couldn’t afford to buy a property on the open market so looked at Shared Ownership.”

“What attracted us the most to shared ownership was getting on the property ladder, but also the security of having our own home, where there isn’t a worry of a landlord giving you two months’ notice to vacate the property if they want to sell”, explained Sara. “Shared Ownership is such an easy option for those who struggle to buy a home but wish to have security.”

Toby and Sara’s home is part of the Rosewood development in Maidstone where Golding Places have a mix of 2- and 3-bed family homes sold through Shared Ownership.

The proud owner of a new 2-bed house Sara said: “It’s so great, we won’t have to move again. We’re now secure.”

Toby and Sara are now very much looking forward to enjoying their new home with Sanka, their much-loved dog.

Paula Spain, Sales Manager at Golding Homes said: “I met Toby and Sara on the day they moved in, and they were so happy. It was lovely to see how excited they were. It’s thanks to the Shared Ownership scheme that they have a place to feel secure and call their own.”

Shared Ownership is an affordable option for people who want to get their foot on the property ladder but can’t afford to buy a home on the open market.
