Celebrating 100th Shared Ownership Home

It was a double celebration as couple Paul Newton and Jolene Humphry received the keys to their new family home in Dartford and became our 100th shared ownership customer.

Both Paul and Jolene were desperate to move from their cramped rented one bed flat where they lived with their 18 month son, Ronnie.  At first they thought owning a home of their own was out of their reach, until they heard about the Shared Ownership Scheme.

Now they are the proud owners of a three bedroom family home at Latham Place in Dartford, thanks to Golding Places, the commercial arm of Kent Housing Association Golding Homes.

Paul said:  “We are over the moon, it’s a really lovely home and beautifully finished.  We feel really lucky to have got this property.

Since meeting six years ago, both Paul and Jolene have been saving every penny in the hopes that that one day they could afford their own home.  “We were looking for a property within easy commuting distance from our work and this development was in an ideal location for us,” commented Paul.

The Shared Ownership scheme has made it possible for us to get on the property ladder, and the great thing is that we have the option to buy additional shares in our home if we want to.”

Built by Abbey Homes, these contemporary homes on the Darenth Road Development are close to the town centre and local amenities.  Paul and Jolene’s spacious home is fitted with built in appliances, quality fitted carpets and has an allocated parking space along with a private rear garden.

Golding Places has purchased 18 of the properties to make available for their customers under the Shared Ownership Scheme.

“The house is amazing and we are overwhelmed,” said Jolene. “I can’t wait to start moving in our belongings and making it our home.   Golding Homes have been brilliant and this home gives us hope for the future.”

Gary Clark, CEO at Golding Homes said: “Shared Ownership provides a great opportunity for first time buyers like Paul and Jolene to take their first steps on the property ladder.”

Shared Ownership is a part buy, part rent scheme designed to help people who wish to buy a home of their own, but who cannot afford the cost of buying the property outright.  It offers home buyers the opportunity to buy a share of their home (between 25% and 75% of the home’s value) and to pay rent on the remaining share.

Golding Places has a selection of properties available for shared ownership, private sale and market rent across Kent and East Sussex which you can view by visiting our Development Portfolio.
